Join Keep Stoneham Beautiful to help establish a new native pollinator garden at Dike Square!
Volunteers will help transform approximately 750 square feet of turf into a native garden featuring regionally appropriate grasses and flowering perennials. The new garden will support pollinators, improve the site’s ecological value, and reduce long-term maintenance. No gardening experience is required.
Date and Time: Sunday, October 11, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Volunteer Limit: The event is limited to 10 volunteers due to the size of the site. Advance registration is required.
What Volunteers Will Be Doing: Volunteers will help remove and fold the existing tarps, prepare the planting area, spread native wildflower seed, and plant pollinator-friendly transplants.
Location and Meeting Point: Volunteers will meet at the garden area in Dike Square in Stoneham.
Parking:The Natural Food Exchange parking area is the recommended place to park.
What to Bring: Please bring gardening gloves. Volunteers are also encouraged to bring a bow rake, also known as a landscaping rake, if available. KSB will have a limited number of rakes, spades, and shovels available.
What to Wear: Please wear comfortable gardening clothes and closed-toe shoes.
Physical Requirements: The work will involve some kneeling and digging, along with light lifting of tarps and bricks.
Age and Safety: This event is best suited for volunteers ages 14 and older. Because the garden is located within Dike Square near active roadways, it is not a safe environment for young children to move around independently. The work will also involve gardening tools, digging, and uneven ground.
Weather: Rain will cancel the event. Registered volunteers will be notified by email if the event needs to be canceled. A new date will be selected based on the weather forecast and volunteer availability.
